Dr. Jane Reside, ND has owned and operated a private practice in Victoria since 2001.
Schooling
Jane began her naturopathic training at Bastyr University in Seattle, WA, and finished off the four year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, ON where she graduated in 2000. Prior to naturopathic school, Dr. Reside obtained a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC. She most recently completed the course work and exam to acquire prescribing authority in the province of British Columbia, a joint effort between the University of British Columbia and the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, both in Vancouver.
Her Practice
Jane brings several areas of specific interest to her work as a naturopath. She focuses much of her practice in the areas of children’s health, maternal health, and fertility. Working with kids she treats the common childhood ailments of colds & flus, ear infections, eczema, and allergies, but also with childhood anxiety and sleep problems, behavioural and learning issues, as well as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. In maternal health and fertility, she helps to balance hormones and treats many of the common issues facing pregnant women; she also works with couples who are having difficulty conceiving. In general practice, she most commonly treats digestive disorders, food allergies, depression and anxiety, thyroid and adrenal imbalances, the effects of high stress, and helps many individuals with weight loss endeavours.
In the Community
In addition to her practice, she has spent the last 10 years in the community giving talks and workshops on several topics, including children’s health, peri-natal health, stress management, weight loss, allergies, general nutrition, and sports nutrition, having worked for many years with athletes. She was a regular guest, from 2003 to 2009, at the James Bay Community Project, teaching infant nutrition through the Moms and Babies group. Jane has also published two articles in Island Parent magazine, has been interviewed for Monday Magazine and Yam magazine, and in 2008 was a regular guest on Move It!, a radio show on CFAX produced and hosted by the A Channel’s Robin Farrell. She has participated 3 times in the annual Victoria Baby Fair, and in 2009 and 2010 presented a seminar on Autism at the Making Tomorrow Conference held annually at the University of Victoria. Jane also worked with Boiron, Canada’s premier supplier of homeopathic remedies, traveling throughout BC and Alberta providing educational seminars on homeopathic medicine, in 2009 and 2010.
Pender Island
From 2004 to 2007, Jane travelled once a week to the medical clinic on Pender Island to provide naturopathic care to the island’s residents. Due to a demanding workload in Victoria, Jane had to stop her visits in 2007, but she still heads over every winter to provide her flu prevention protocol, and greatly misses the fabulous folks of Pender.
Continuing Education and Credentials
As all licensed ND’s must, Jane takes ongoing continuing education each year to regularly upgrade her knowledge and skills in the ever-changing profession of health care. She is a member in good standing of the College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC (CNPBC), the British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA), and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). She is licensed to practice acupuncture through the CNPBC. Most recently she has acquired prescriptive authority through the joint initiative of the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine and the UBC School of Pharmacy.
